Power can exist where you place it.

One of my favorite books to guide students in reading is How Yoga Works by Geshe Michael Roach. The first part is pretty self-explantory, but then it gets into some more in-depth concepts. One of the many favorite parts of that book is when the teacher picks up a pen and asks the student what it is. It is a pen to the person using it as a pen. However, it might be a working tool for someone else, and it most definitely can be food for a cow. Things are what you and I make them to be. With psychosomatics we know that what we apply mental power to can have healing power if we want it so. The mind is a very powerful thing. Many people don't know about phantom pregnancy, pseudocyesis. With pseudocyesis a person wants to be pregnant so bad that they believe themselves to be and their body responds and looks pregnant in every way physically and with labs, except there is no growing baby. The mind is so extraordinarily powerful!

Keeping this in mind, here are some truths about chakras that unfortunately don't get mentioned. I expand on other components of chakras in my Diving Deeper series, but here are two points.

  • The color application to the chakras (root - red, sacral -orange, solar plexus - yellow, etc.) is not ancient or traditional. Additionally, there is zero evidence. Someone in the 70's (yes - not that long ago) had an idea (yes an idea) that the chakras should go with the color of the rainbow, and so it was accepted. This means there is no correlation with the colors of the rainbow and the chakras, unless that happens to resonate with you.

  • Those crystal sound healing bowls are healing, but each note does not align with the chakras. The note C does not necessarily vibrate your root chakra. The vibration of F does not necessarily vibrate your heart chakra, and so on. When someone is playing a B crystal bowl and saying they are activating your third eye - are they really?

With this strength of the mind previously mentioned, what you believe can be. If you feel that C is going to vibrate your root chakra then go for it, it might. However, if you feel that C vibration resonates with your heart center, then it does. What we do know is that sound is healing. Vibration is healing. So those crystal bowls can absolutely be healing! Sound can also not be healing, so that is also important to honor. Not all sound treats everyone the same. Sound healing is a form of music therapy, and music therapy comes in all forms. <3 Just like Yoga and Ayurveda, we are all different needing different things.

In working with students through kriya and meditation, some judge themselves if their solar plexus doesn't resonate as yellow, or heart as green, for example. I explain how that is normal. Your energetic centers will vibrate with color and sound however they are meant for you to experience. We are all different. Not one color will affect everyone the same. Not one sound vibration will affect everyone the same. Simultaneously, it can be beneficial to apply a symbol or color to something when we are working with mediation or kriya. It's all about what connects with you - it's why symbolism can be so helpful. The color of the chakras and the sounds affecting the chakras are a newly designed symbol - maybe it applies to you, and maybe it does not.

There is so much out there right now in the healing field, especially on social media. Please just be mindful of what is versus what was created as truth with no evidence versus what someone is just trying to get you to believe. Honor your unique self. Honor tradition. Honor that it's ok for something to be healing if you believe it to be so. It's noteworthy to mention that something doesn't need to be ancient or traditional, or scientifically proven, to be healing and wonderful. However, look at the truths, the science, and the facts and be cautious when something is accepted too quickly as a truth, without anything to back it up.

I am not putting down any person or teacher for guiding these things. They are doing what they feel is correct and right, despite everything I have already mentioned. However, there is more to be considered when people/students are trusting their healing professionals and teachers for communicating truth. It's a fine balance. I truly feel that everyone should be educated with the realities, and there is so much personal interpretation right now being articulated as a reality or truth. Ask great questions. Find evidence. At the same time, honor that there is so much in the world we do not know and cannot see and cannot yet scientifically prove. What is true to you?

That's all for now.

Have a beautiful day!
